We been anticipating this birthday for a LONG time. I still can't believe she's already 8. That makes her old and makes me feel even older! I wanted to send out invitations to her baptism which meant we needed to take some pictures of her in her baptism dress. There's a highway surrounding our neighborhood that is completely covered with these beautiful yellow flowers (weeds). If you happened to be driving on the 45 that day, I was the crazy woman pulled over on the side of the road, taking pictures of a little girl in the flowers while cars whizzed by us at 70 mph.
We eventually decided on this picture for her invitation because it was one of the only ones without her dog Clifford.
So a few weeks before the big day, these adorable little invites went out to all our family and friends. Sadie was very good at inviting our neighbors who would otherwise not be going to church on a Saturday morning. A natural born missionary already!
Her birthday fell on a school day which is annoying and fun at the same time. Fun because you get to have cupcakes with all your friends at school but annoying because you have to wake up SUPER early to receive your breakfast in bed.
She always requests a cinnamon roll for breakfast on her birthday.
We decided that because we had already purchased Sadie a beautiful new bike for her birthday a few weeks ago, we wouldn't be giving her anymore big gifts for her birthday. But the day could still be fun with a balloon avalanche when she opened her bedroom door!
She also got Chick Fil-A for lunch and cupcakes with her whole class on the back deck.
She wanted Pterry's for dinner and then it was time for cake and a few little presents.
CC gave her a little teaser for her baptism gift....a new scripture bag!!
I don't know what happened but this little diva turned 8 and all of a sudden became a a new person! All of a sudden she's WAY more pleasant! Maybe it's the whole "I'm getting baptized soon" mentality or that she's finally just outgrown her eternal stage of "divaness." Who knows, but we LOVE IT!! She'll always be our spunky little Sadie though, no matter how helpful and polite she may become.
She wouldn't be Sadie Lady with out a couple of breakdowns every once in a while. The other day while we were on a loooong car ride (which is BY FAR the hardest on Sadie for some reason), I thought it would be fun to sing "the green grass grows all around" song which is kind of fun because it's repetitious and the kids can sing along too. I happened to be singing in opera falsetto at the time and she kept saying (with rolled eyes) "mom, you are so obnoxious!" I kept singing anyway and would stop to see if the kids could fill in the blank. This is how it went down "and the feather was on the _____?" to which she replied "freaking bird." If we never had to drive anywhere with Mom singing opera falsetto style, Sadie's life would be butterflies and rainbows all the time!!
This picture was taken after I asked her to clean her room. Crown and all!! It was the HARDEST thing I had ever asked her to do!! That and riding up a big hill after a fun and energetic bike ride around the neighborhood. The kids were looking pretty worn out so I called back to them.."ok guys!! Last hill to our house!" Sadie replied "Last hill until I DIE!!" Her dramatics are hilarious. She never quite understands why we can't help but laugh at some of the things she says sometimes.
She even looks like a princess when she sleeps! She needs a new window in her bedroom that can block the heat better. She will often complain that her room is too warm and would rather camp out on the couch. It's either that or fall asleep next to Jack.
They start the night out like the picture above and by the time Chase and I go to bed, they look like the picture below.
She and Jack are such great little buddies. They have their occasional quarrels from time to time but, for the most part, usually get along. Jack is starting to get more of an opinion which is always hard for the once dominating older sister ( I speak from experience). The years to come should be interesting. At dinner the other night, Jack decided to start eating before we said the prayer. Aghast, Sadie couldn't help but use this as an opportunity to teach the young lad with her older three years of experience. "Jack, did you know that Jesus didn't eat for 40 whole days?!! You can TOTALLY wait a minute while we wait to say the prayer!" She taught us all a little something about patience that night:-)
Sometimes I will make something for dinner that NO ONE wants to eat (what's the point people!!!) I can't remember what we were eating when Sadie turned to me and said "Mom, you know what's weird about this dinner? It smells really bad, but it tastes pretty good!" This was her attempt at still scoring dessert after offending my dinner in the nicest way possible.
She's taken the initiative these days at making her own meals. Sometimes if she doesn't like what I've prepared, she'll get up and nuke herself a taquito much to my chagrin. Sometimes this works and other times, not so much. The other morning I walked into the kitchen to find her making some cinnamon toast with Crisco instead of butter. In her defense, the Crisco at least looked a little like butter, being in stick form. Lucky for her, I intercepted the toast before it made it to her mouth.
Anytime a mistake like this happens (little or small, intentional and unintentional), her response is always "It was an accident!!" These "accidents" might include her whacking Jack across the head as she passes by. He was totally in the way!!
I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning all these funny things she does down the road from now, because I really do get quite a kick out of her sometimes. Chase and I will often talk about how silly she is in bed at night and the funny things she says. She's such a gem and has so many wonderful qualities along with her sass. She will be the first to compliment you on something your wearing that day. You feeling a little sick? Sadie whips up a "get better soon" card in no time at all! She loves to be my little helper. She's great at getting George out of his crib in the morning and entertaining him so we can sleep in on the weekends. She's still a TOTAL STINKER when she practices the piano (something I think we'll always have to deal with) but she makes up for it when she performs like a superstar at her piano recitals!!
She's a wonderful friend to her buddies and very good at including everyone. She has the BEST laugh in the world!! I am totally jealous of her laugh because I've always been made fun of for my weird little chuckle. I could bottle up that laugh and keep it in my back pocket all day long!!
She's had a fantastic year at school and continues to have lots of fun little friends. She's made a great new friend at school and I love having them play together because Asha is such a nice little girl. They are such great little buddies!!
She's still my very petite little peanut with a little brother catching up to her in height. She doesn't like being so small and measures herself almost every day. She does this with high hopes that she will one day be able to ride the slide at the Circle C pool. This year all her hopes and dreams came true!! She stood against that pole in front of the pool nazi and her head was at the 48 inch line!! Hand over the wrist band teenage Hitler!! She's going down the slide!! I think that was probably her favorite birthday present to date. Happy Birthday my little Sadie Lady. We love you sooooo much!!
